We don't look a thing alike though. In fact, other than the fact we were born on the same day we aren't much alike at all. I love her though.

So if video games are mindless things, as my Dad says, does that mean that video game music is mindless as well? If so, then to me that's an insult. As a musician and video game music lover, I find that statement incredibly offensive and insulting.

Well. . . you're the one who wrote that statement  Video game music essentially proven to be anything but "mindless". From the get-go, it is designed to sit there in the background while you play the game, stimulating you and inspiring you. Therefore, while it's great to get you in the mood to play games, it's also perfect for something to play while you study, or read, or write. Especially if you haven't heard it before, so it can't distract you. And anyone who WOULD say that video game music is "mindless" (although I've never heard of anyone saying such a thing) is mistaken, and ought to be educated on the matter. |

My Dad believes that video games and everything related to such are mindless. He says they don't teach anything at all, that they're just time-wasters and lack educational value.
Now, music, on the other hand, provides inspiration, just like you said. But even my Dad says that it's mindless, even when he never bothers to listen to it. What's a game without music? Playing in silence is boring and unrealistic. And I find it very mentally stimulating while I'm doing homework or writing my novels and stuff.
What's his argument? Is everything in this world mindless? Is there any good left in this world?

Your dad sure as hell doesn't represent the whole world.
Just because he's ignorant and disagrees with you doesn't mean all is lost. Let him believe what he wants. Most people in the older generations don't, and never will, care about video games / their music / their worth.
