Full Name:
General Ridgewell Alistair Lavenderfur
Nick Name(s):
Lavender, by his close friends
Gender:
Male
Pronouns:
He/Him/His
Age:
Late 40s / Early 50s
Species:
Hare
Appearance:
Pre-Canon: Dark gray fur with lighter gray markings, and icy blue eyes. He has a scruff of fur on his chin that gives the impression of a small beard, and is fairly large for a hare, which is partially how he got to the rank he did. His ears have a few notches in them from battle, and his forearms have a few scars, but overall he is still fit and capable of fighting as well as any young member of the Long Patrol. He also has long, impressive whiskers, and heavy eyebrows. His cheekbones are high, giving his face sort of a gaunt look, and his smile is rather crooked.
Canon: Obviously, his fur color and markings are the same as before. However, the General's right eye is now missing entirely, leaving a large scar from his eyebrow to his cheekbone, and he wears a plain black eye patch over the socket. His left ear has been shredded to ribbons, and while he can still hear out of it, it will never stand up on it's own again. Whereas he had a few scars on his forearms before, now he has a few on his back, chest, and legs to join them.
Personality:
General Lavenderfur is a very strict fellow, and has a short temper. Often known to go off on long tangents, spout nonsense, and mutter to himself until he's had ten good conversations, most younger hares are afraid of him and avoid him. Despite this erratic sort of behavior, he's an excellent soldier, brave as can be, and always tries to make the decisions that benefit the majority. Sometimes his methods aren't well-tested or familiar, but since becoming General of the Long Patrol, he hasn't lost a battle. He despises most jokes, and the only music he really cares for is often slow, and sad. He's known to compose such songs alone in his quarters, but no one has ever seen any of his sheet music.
Allies:
The Long Patrol, the Badger Lord, and Redwall Abbey
Enemies:
Any and all vermin, in or out of Mossflower and the surrounding areas
Strengths:
- Very strong, and a good fighter
- A natural leader that devises well-thought-out battle tactics
- Unafraid of death
Weakness:
- Getting older in age has made his joints begin to ache, and puts a hamper on his fighting
- His occasional bouts of strange behavior are distracting and sometimes unsettling
- Is often too harsh on younger hares, which gives off an unpleasant impression to those who don't know him better
*Goal:
In general: Protect Salamandastron and serve The Long Patrol until death.
For the canon roleplay: Lead what remains of the second patrol home safely, find Argrav and his men, and kill them.
Background:
Born and bred for the Long Patrol, Ridgewell's parents were two high-ranking hares that served for most of their lives under Lord Lasair's predecessor, and Lasair himsef for a time before they were slain in battle. Ridgewell didn't shed a tear at their funeral, proclaiming they died doing what they loved and were meant to do, and he wanted to die just the same way. In youth, Ridgewell was arguably attractive, being very muscular and athletic. He charmed a lady hare, and the two were wed in their 20's, a star couple among the new recruits.
Ridgewell had his sights set on the rank of "General" from practically birth, and put everything he had into the Long Patrol. He volunteered to go on missions even when he was scheduled for down-time. He was a living, breathing, Long Patrol machine. Soon, his wife became pregnant, which delighted everyone - the child would be a prodigy. However, it wasn't meant to be. His wife died in childbirth, and the child with her.
After this, Ridgewell lost part of himself. Perhaps that's why he changed to be the way he is. After her death, Ridgewell spoke of nothing but the Long Patrol, and dedicated his life to it entirely. Some say he was only given the title of "General" because Lord Lasair pitied him. Others defended him, and said that in spite of everything, he is still the best hare Salamandastron has to offer. Ridgewell doesn't listen to the gossip, but secretly, he wishes no one would pity him.
Quirks:
Talks to himself frequently, and likes very sad-sounding music.
Weapons:
General Lavenderfur can turn most anything into a weapon, but favors fighting with a sabre. He also carries a dagger on his person at all times, and is capable of using a bow and arrow if one is present. Most satisfied by fighting with his hands and feet, though.
Other things that may be important:
In spite of everything against him in this bio, it's important to note that General Lavenderfur does have what it takes to be the General and lead the Long Patrol. He has proven himself as intelligent, sensible, strong, and a great leader to those who serve directly beneath him. He does not wish to retire from the position, either.
