Full Name: Vaska Serket
*Nick Name(s): The Sea Scorpion, or the Queen of the Eastern Ocean depending on who you are talking to
Gender: female
Pronouns: she/her
Age: 20 ish in human years - she’s never really been a birthday/season counting type.
Species: ermine
Appearance: Her fur is a cool white, except for the end of her tail with has a black tip. She is missing her right eye, which she lost in an unfortunate shipwreck.
Personality:
Vaska took the whole ‘being a vermin’ thing to heart quite young. Raised on the decks of a pirate vessel which was little more than a rickety old tub with a crew of unbecoming individuals who seemed to change with every season, most often due to unexpected (though not wholly undeserved) impalement, Vaska learnt quickly that the animals of Mossflower didn’t think much of her kind. If she was to be scum in the eyes of every animal, then she would be the meanest, toughest, most terrifying scum those creatures had ever laid eyes on; and she succeeded at it.
By the time she was at her fifth season she had gotten a bigger ship, a bigger crew, and the Siren’s Sabre was the scourge of the seas’. Her naturally competitive streak lead her on to bigger and better conquests. She is impatient, overly confident, and exceptionally good at manipulating animals to do as she wishes. When sweet promises of glory and betterment don’t work on her victims, promises of swift and sharp vengeance often do. She is not above murder or torture to get what she wants, and would not bat an eye at sheathing her sword through the chest of an ally, were it to further her goals. Ultimately, she wants to be well liked, but is self righteous and selfish to the point where she cannot even conceive what other people might want.
Vaska is a great deal many things, but ultimately, she thinks of herself as the hero; she is the underdog, fighting against all odds for her own goals, and doesn’t that make her great? She’s a little misguided, obviously. She has occasionally found herself terribly lonesome, and wants desperately to have someone she can rely on - however, her own upbringing has left her skeptical of such a thing ever being possible. Still, it is a weak point in the armour of her bravado and confidence, and a killing blow if anyone was to strike upon it too hard.
Allies: All dead, sadly.
Enemies: Too numerous to count.
Strengths: Her quick wit, general air of confidence, and sword fighting skills.
Weakness: Paranoid, jealous, arguably far more confident than she has any right to be. Petty to the point of annoying, and spiteful to boot. Also achingly lonesome - she wants friend’s so bad, but her own suspicions keep everyone at arm's length. Blind spot on her right side due to missing an eye, which she tries to overcompensate for with fancy sword work - doesn't always work.
*Goal: She aims to destroy the Long Patrol, and has vague designs on Salamandastron itself, but it's a bit of a pipe dream. Crewless and arguably believed dead, she has few allies and a great deal of enemies.
Background: Raised on a tiny tub and sword in paw from the beginning, Vaska was born to fight. She learnt quick life had not dealt her a favourable hand, and did everything to turn the odds more in her favour. She’s pulled ropes, rowed oars, swept decks and sipped slop - her origins were quite humble as far as vermin go - she was never born a lofty lady, or daughter to any particularly feared beast. But slowly, through cunning, conniving, and just the right amount of pushing the right rat overboard in the quiet of night, she worked her way up to captain of her own vessel. Immediately she began whipping herself a crew of the most vicious and bloodthirsty beasts she could find - and all of them a sight too paranoid to trust the others. The crew was kept focussed by Vaska, and Vaska alone - each beast loyal only to her and the promise of renown, and kept wary and suspicious of each other with just the right whisper in just the right grubby, sword nicked ear. Vaska and the crew of the Siren’s Sabre cut a clean path down the Mossflower coastline. She made a name for them - one carved in fire and blood. Things were looking up - she was one of the most feared privateering vessels on the open water, and otter’s shook in their burrows at the mere thought of her captaining success. Unfortunately enough, this would also be her downfall - they were ambushed by the Long Patrol, the Siren’s Sabre was captured, and most of her crew met their end on the pikes and swords of the hare’s. Vaska escaped by throwing herself overboard - she’d already taken an arrow to the shoulder, and with the last of her strength, pulled herself onto a broken piece of the boat’s hull and let the tide take her. Lucky enough not to drown, when she came back to consciousness, her broken piece of ship had sailed its final journey just far enough down the River Moss to save her from destruction. She pulled herself from the water, snapped the arrow from her shoulder and gingerly dug out the head, swearing to slash the ears from the next hare she saw. Since then she has wandered aimless and destitute, spluttering with rage and a burning thirst for vengeance.
*Quirks: Swaggers whenever she walks, pulls out daggers from more places than you think you could even HIDE daggers, is missing her right eye.
*Weapons: Her curved scimitar with a hooked point, and 8 small daggers she keeps in various places at all times.
*Other things that may be important: vaska's name and design is a little bit inspired from vriska/mindfang from homestuck!
