It was calm in Mossflower Wood. The birds were chirping, and the animals were scurrying about. A soft breeze floated through the forest, rustling the leaves on the trees. All was quiet.
Then, a horrible shrieking split the air. The birds shot out of the trees, and many small animals emerged from their hidey holes and fled as fast as they could. It was so awful, the most blackhearted vermin alive would beg to have it stopped. A whistling, brown furred mouse, wearing a faded green tunic and walking upon a spear, came into view.
"Ah, what a beautiful day," Liam Stoutheart mused, taking note of the fleeing creatures, wondering why they were doing that. "I hope this forest ends soon; I've been here for quite a while already, and all these trees look alike."

"Forest doesn't end for a while, boyho." Aristion said, falling into step behind Liam. He'd been tracking the mouse for a while, and figured him to be a stranger in these parts. Mainly due to the fact he was headed right towards a marshier area. "Your life will probably end before the forest does, though that's no real business of mine."
He was concerned about whatever it was that had shrieked loud enough to send the birds flying. He had never heard anything like that in Mossflower before, and he'd rather seek it out than have to babysit this mouse.

(Sure! The more, the merrier!)
Liam whirled around at the sudden appearance of the voice; he started to ready his spear, but relaxed when he saw that the speaker was an old, scarred otter.
"If that's no business of yours, why bother to warn me?" he asked curiously, sizing him up.

She had been practicing her jumping. The little squirrel bounded across different branches, her grey fur flowing behind her. She giggled aloud as she bounced off a particularly "springy" one that sent her flying towards the next. Her jerkin, tattered and dirty beyond belief, fluttered in the breeze. As she leaped, she hummed a little ditty.
"My name is Roe, and here i go, jumpin' here and to and fro, abuve da twees, just like da bees, dey go to and fro too!"
The song didn't rhyme all the way though but the dibbun had come up with it herself and proudly kept singing it. Just as she was going into another verse, the branch she was bounding off of snapped. Clawing comically through the air, she screamed as she fell towards the marshy swamp below; the sound pierced through the air and startled birds into flight. She landed so fast that the mud sucked Roe up to her waist. She tried to paddle towards the shore but the weight of her lower half, and her soon to be middle, slowed her down. She started calling for help, as the mud crawled it's way towards her chest.
(sorry for the long wait things got a little busy edit: also sorry if it looks like i'm trying to be a victim i just thought it would be funny to see a 60 year old grouchy man get followed around by a 4 year old if that's not cool w y'all that's totally fine i can change baby)

(No that is totally cool I am here for this)
"Cos I'm not in charge of ye," Aristion said, crossing his arms. "Now, if'n ye'll excuse me, I've got to go check out that noise. Came from up yonder. Don't get yerself in trouble. I'll be back ta deal with ye."
Breezing past the mouse, Aristion made his way towards the marsh. He kept one paw on the hilt of his sword, and skimmed the area for any sign of the disturbance. It didn't take him long to pinpoint where the noise had come from. A little squirrel had fallen into the marsh, and was sunk up to her waist. Acting swiftly, he made his way to the edge of the marsh, close to where the little one was.
"Hey there, young'n. Don't squirm around. I'll get ye out," He said, keeping his voice calm. If he was calm, he hoped the squirrel would be too. She wasn't that far from the edge, though she was just out of reach. He looked around for anything that might be long enough to get her out. Spying a low hanging branch, he drew his sword and cut through it. He held on to one end, and held the rest of the branch out for the dibbun.
"Grab onto that there, and I'll get ye out."

(Ginger, it's fine; in fact, your post was a perfect way to introduce the character)
Liam rubbed his temples at the otter's nonsensical answer. He wasn't fooled by the creature's rough talk; he was pretty sure that that 'noise' had been the voice of somebeast crying for help. Well, there was no way he was going to avoid helping out, but he was also keenly aware that not only was he a stranger in these woods, but that the otter would probably not need his help.
"Better to be safe than sorry," he muttered to himself, cautiously following behind the otter and trying not to make too much noise.

In a state of panic, the dibbun flailed wildly in the mud and tried to paddle to the store with little success. She felt the mud crawling up her chest, nearing her neck; she was ready to cry. Thoughts of suffocation raced through her head when she heard a calm, gruff voice near her. She turned her head to see a tall otter, fur silver with age and sporting several battle scars. Seeing another creature, she relaxed a little. At least she wasn't alone.
She watched him chop a sturdy branch and hold it out to her. Going agonizingly slow, the squirrel made her way towards the stick and managed to wrap her little paws around it.

Once the squirrel had taken hold of the branch, Aristion slowly started pulling her in. If he went too fast, she could lose her grip and get sucked down further. The few minutes it took him to drag her to shore were almost agonizing, but once he had her close enough, he was able to reach in and pull out the dibbun.
"There ye go matey. Didn't yer folks tell ye ta stay away from the marshes?" He gently scolded, setting her down away from the edge of the marsh. Seeing as how no one had gotten to her before he did, he thought maybe she didn't have folks. If that were the case, it'd be off to Redwall Abbey for her. He'd take her there and make sure she got inside. Those Redwall beasts liked orphans.

Feeling her paws touch the grass again, she let out a relieved and breathy chuckle. Unfortunately, her smile drooped once she saw how muddy she was. The thought of finding water rose to her mind when the otter asked her about "folks".
"Whatta does? Do you got folks? Did they teach you how to do dis?"
With that's she did what any other dibbun would do to get clean; she got down on the dewy grass and started to roll around. As more mud was wiped off, her grey fur became clearer. Her jerkin remained as dirty as it was though; you can never really tell if something the color of soil is dirty or clean.
"Dis way, if you get dirty and dere's no watar near by, you can still get clean!"
She continued to roll around, focusing on cleaning her tail.

Liam sighed in relief when he saw that the little squirrel was alright. He rose from a crouch, and retreated from the bushes he was hiding behind, snapping a twig as he did so.

"Aye maybe, little one but I'm going to bring you to real water to get that filth of o' ye. " Aristion said, lifting the squirrel off the ground. He froze when he heard the snap of a twig. Quickly setting the dibbun down, he turned to face the bushed.
"Alright, whoever's hiding in there best come out b'fore I come in after ye, and I'm sure ye don't want that."

"Easy, easy," Liam called out as he rose from his hiding spot, spreading his paws wide so as not to spook the old otter. "It's just me."

Going a little more than limp in the otters arms, the ribbon was happy to be lifted up off the ground. Either she didn't notice or was too happy to care about the snapping twig. When she was set down, she rubbed her paws on the dewy earth and started to rub her cheeks and ears with the water. She looked up at the sound of Liams voice.
"Hi! What's ya name?"

"I am Liam, little one," the mouse replied, smiling gently at the tiny squirrel. "And who might you be?"
