(This may be edited at a later date if I messed something up real bad lol)
Full Name:
Corporal Dianthus Dancepaw
Nick Name(s):
None, as of yet, but will be welcome in the future from friends.
Gender:
Male
Pronouns:
He/Him/His
Age:
Adult (in human years, probably in his mid-20s)
Species:
Hare
Appearance:
Tall and rather lanky, as hares usually are, with powerful hind legs fit for running and kicking. His fur is a sandy color, with a lighter, wheat-colored belly, neck, and chin. His eyes are a deep brown, and he has a small scar on his left shoulder from a training incident that went awry. Looks healthy and youthful, and is typically seen wearing not much more than a simple leather jerkin, along with a belt.
Personality:
Dianthus is one of those hares that would rather be eating than doing just about anything, but can't hold down as much food as he'd like. When training or on duty, he adopts a false sense of seriousness, because he feels it helps transition him into the role of a Long Patrol Hare rather than plain-old-Dianthus. When anywhere but within the safe walls of Salamandastron, he is also rather timid, which prompts other hares to tease him and call him a "rabbit", which irritates him. However, when he's off duty and relaxing, he can become quite the jokester, looking for ways to make his friends laugh. Sometimes he takes things a little too seriously, and then gets confused when his friends take things he meant as jokes seriously. He can also be a little slow to understand things, but he's overall a very caring person, and tries his best to empathize with others, even if it doesn't always work out.
Allies:
The Badger Lord, the Long Patrol, et their allies (Redwall Abbey)
Enemies:
Anyone who wishes harm upon the above
Strengths:
- His physical fitness and ability to follow orders has given him ease with finding a permanent spot in the Long Patrol
- Above-average hearing and sense of smell, due to his being a hare, but also has impressive eyesight
- Very fast
Weakness:
- He's a coward, who is afraid of getting too close to his adversaries or fighting face-to-face
- Because he wants to hide the fact he is a coward, he has also taken up the tendency of lying a lot, even to his friends
- Not the best shot in all of the Long Patrol, usually needs a moment to breathe and relax before he can accurately fire an arrow
Goal:
Short-term - follow orders and do as he's told
Long-term - retire from the Long Patrol (with a spouse?) to Mossflower and be away from danger, so he can live peacefully
Background:
Dianthus lived with his family in a small camp on the edge of Mossflower wood, nearer to the seaside. The camp was quickly gaining more residents than it could handle, and there were too many children for their parents to properly defend. When Dianthus had reached adolescence, his best friend, Oakleaf, began telling him stories of his uncle who was a Long Patrol hare. Dianthus was awed by the daring stories, and enthralled at the idea of becoming a hero. The two friends decided the best idea would be to leave the camp and journey to Salamandastron, to both get out of their parent's hair, and to become heroes together. However, on their journey there, the two were foolish and careless, and attracted the attention of a lonely stoat, who ambushed them while they slept. Dianthus, once he realized what was happening, dropped everything and fled into the woods. When he returned to the site a long while later, Oakleaf was lying there, slain, and all their things were taken.
Grief overtook Dianthus, because if he had stayed, he could have possibly saved his friend's life. He vowed from that moment on that he would become a member of the Long Patrol, no matter what it took, to avenge his friend. And after years of training, he finally earned a spot. But the incident made it obvious that Dianthus wasn't all that reliable of a soldier outside of hare vs hare training situations, so in order to hide his fears, he took to the bow, where he could attack from afar.
Weapons:
Bow and arrow, predominantly. Can fight hand-to-hand (or more likely foot-to-foot), but prefers to be at a distance.
Other things that may be important: Currently, Dianthus considers himself biromantic/bisexual, and while he wishes for a romantic partner, he's also afraid to form serious bonds because of the dangers that come with being in the Long Patrol, and what happened to his best friend from childhood. Therefore, even if Dianthus considers you a friend, he may come across as distanced at times, because he refuses to let himself get hurt over another death.
