(Ooc: Friar Ahndia is currently in charge of the kitchens. This thread is open to anyone who needs snacks or company!)
The kitchens of Redwall are rarely empty. Before most other creatures are up, the ovens are lit and filled. The smell of good food, made with love, continuously drifts about the Abbey. The hustle and bustle tends to pick up after breakfast has been eaten; it does not quiet until the dinner dishes are done and the next day's breakfast is prepped. Then, it is only Friar Ahndia who remains through the night, just in case a creature wanders in for a midnight snack.

Tarlya made her way down to the kitchens, still a bit sleepy from being up so late the night before, but she could never bring herself to sleep much past sunrise. The kitchens were already busy working to prepare breakfast, and Tarlya wandered through them until she found Friar Ahndia.
"Good morning Friar!" She says, leaning down to give the squirrel a friendly kiss on the cheek. "What are we serving for breakfast today?"

"Good morning, dear!" Ahndia smiles without looking up from her bowl of dough. Wiping her floury paws on her apron, she turns and surveys the kitchen. "We've got lots of hot oatmeal and fresh scones. I even sent for some preserves and a new jar of honey from the storeroom. You're welcome to eat anything you like, though." The friar adjusts her bracelets, pushing them further down her arm to meet her rolled-up sleeves. "I dunno how crazy you like to get with breakfast, but I saw that we got more jars of hotroot, too." She winks.

"As much as I love hotroot, I am a firm believer in breakfast being sweet! I might get myself some of those scones to take with me outside." Tarlya remarks as she goes to grab a few scones for herself.
"What're you mixing up in that bowl there? Or is that a surprise for later?"

"Ha, I understand. A good sweet breakfast is a lovely thing to start the day with." Ahndia grabs the edge of her bowl and shakes it gently. The dough wobbles. "Oh this thing? No surprises, just some regular ol' bread dough. Nothing too fancy." She's distracted for a moment by a novice running up and depositing a basket of full jam jars on the counter. "Thank you, sweetheart, that'll be all for now. Why don't you go outside for a bit. It'll be much nicer than this hot ol' kitchen." The novice nods and bobs her head, hoping to escape the kitchen before she can be given another task. "D'you want a basket or tray or something for those scones, Tarlya?" She gives her attention back to the otter. "And can I get you anything else? A few scones isn't much of meal!"

"I'll get myself a tray and an apple! I might see if there's some tea ready I can take out to the wall with me. I usually take breakfast out there you know. Nothing beats the view." Tarlya usually took lunch and dinner out on the wall as well, unless there was a feast or it was raining. She had a few favorite spots up there. She stepped away from Friar Ahndia for a moment to grab a plate and an apple for herself. She went back to talk to the Friar while she sliced her apple.
"I wish you could come join me, Friar. You're good company. I feel bad you're in the kitchen so much. But you've got such a passion for what you do, it really shows in your work."

"There should be some tea in one of the pots over the the fire." Ahndia waves a paw in the general direction of the largest open oven in the kitchen, causing a bit of flour to float around in the air. As Tarlya cuts her apple, Ahndia dusts her paws with more flour and pulls the dough out of her bowl so she can knead it on the table. She blushes a bit at the compliment.
"Aw, thanks hun. I do my best! Save those bad feelings for somebeast who needs 'em, though. I love this kitchen, and I love knowing that I've made others feel happy and full. You take your breakfast and enjoy the morning, now. Maybe another time I'll join you." Ahndia smiles as she digs the heels of her palms into the mushy dough. It was unlikely that she'd ever take breakfast outside of the kitchen, but perhaps some day she'd leave the dinner dishes to someone else and go watch the sunset. "D'you have any plans for today once you've eaten?"

"No ma'am, no plans. If I don't get distracted, I'll probably go find somebeast to help out. I'm not busy most days and so I like to try to be useful. Mostly I just end up playing with the dibbuns or something. They're so sweet. " She pauses to take a bite of her apple. "Do you need me to do anything for you today?"

"Hmmm, well, we can always use more willing paws around here! So you're welcome to stay, but you may have more fun playing with the little uns." Ahndia shakes her paws free of flour, dumps the dough back into its bowl and covers it with a piece of cloth from the shelf on the wall above her workspace. "There, that can rest awhile now. I think we're almost ready to start to bringing dishes out to the Cavern Hole tables." Indeed, across the kitchen stacks of bowls and spoons are being loaded onto trolleys. "Once breakfast has been had we've got lunch and tea to make...I'm planning on making some tarts- maybe you'd be interested in making a few with me? Or at the very least, taste-testing some before they go out to the table!"

"I'd love to come help you make some tarts!! I wouldn't mind taste testing a few either." She said, giving the friar a wink. "I'm going to go enjoy my breakfast outside, but I'll see you soon!"
Tarlya gathers her breakfast and leaves the kitchen, heading through the Abbey until she was outside. As she approached the stairs near the orchard, Tarlya noticed several other Abbeybeasts hanging around. No one she particularly felt like talking to at the moment, she liked to enjoy her breakfast alone, so she headed instead towards the pond, to go eat over there where she could stick her paws in the water.
